Every Child in the Park

TN State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath led Grundy County 5th graders on a hike along Little Gizzard Creek.
One of the Friends of South Cumberland's most rewarding educational programs is Every Child in the Park.  Our goal is to bring every elementary-aged student in Grundy County, Tennessee (where much of the Park is located) into the Parks so they can experience nature's adventure and beauty first-hand.  Many local students have never been to the Parks, and it brings the Friends great joy to see so many excited and engaged students discovering our great nature!

Fifth Grade Field Trips to Grundy Forest
Since 2008, the FSC has planned and funded annual year-end field trips to bring every fifth grade class in Grundy County to the park for a day-long outdoor experience, including presentations by park rangers and expert naturalists.

Fourth Grade Field Trips to the Information & Welcome Center
In 2016, the FSC added a fall field trip for every Grundy County fourth grade class. Students came by bus to the South Cumberland Information & Welcome Center and took part in hands-on activities to learn about native wildlife and plants, area geology and the history of the peoples of the South Cumberland.
