Our Mission:
To aid and assist the managers and staffs of South Cumberland and Savage Gulf State Parks in meeting their objectives, and to inform, educate, engage, and inspire its members and the public to protect, conserve, and enjoy all the resources of the parks.
Why Should You Be a Friends Member?
South Cumberland and Savage Gulf State Parks now protect a combined 31,000 acres of pristine Tennessee wilderness. Although this is great news, more land, and more visitors, creates new and urgent unmet needs for the park. Trails must be maintained or upgraded. Improved trailheads, interpretive and directional signage are needed. Invasive pests, like the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid, and invasive plants must be controlled. Guided hikes, seminars and workshops, including programs for area school children, must be prepared and delivered. And, the work of conserving additional environmentally-significant lands is far from complete.
As one of our outstanding Park Rangers said, "The best thing that has ever happened to these Parks is the formation of our Friends group. They have purchased land to add to your parks, have provided construction materials, built bridges, a ranger house, picnic shelters, rescue equipment for the rangers, helped build, assess, and maintain trails, created education programs for our local schools, totally renovated the South Cumberland Park's Information & Welcome Center, created the new interpretive area at the site of the Civilian Conservation Corps camp, and have made many other improvements to your parks. If you love the parks, join the Friends and help them work with us to care for and improve this wonderful wilderness resource!"
Your membership supports the work of the Friends of South Cumberland, on behalf of the parks. You will be empowering a group working to save great spaces in the South Cumberland and help protect and maintain these magnificent parks.
